
Harley Davidson Panhead Engine 1948 - 1965 During the long and successfull service years of the Panhead engine the developing of the motor continued and can be recognized by few external characteristics, starting from the 1948 low profile D rings made of welded 3 ply's of steel sheets, the 8 fins cam cover and early oil pump, later on with larger intakes the larger heads fins . from around 1953 the engine appears with the highly recognized 4 fins cam cover and modern oil pump, around 1955 the high profile aluminum D rings appears first with only 6 screws but those quickly changed to the 12 screws arrangement to improve oil sealing, in 1965 the engine mounted to the first Electra Glide, its the last year of the engine and recognized by its unique shaved and simplified cam cover... |
